"Enoch Walked with God."
"Noah Walked with God."

In a rather charming way, the Bible describes each person’s life as a walk. As walking involves a step by step progression over the surface of the earth, so also living involves a day by day progression through the allotted years of your life.

We are introduced very early in the pages of Holy Scripture to two godly men-- Enoch and Noah. Each of these men is said to have “walked with God.” From this we are to understand that they were intimate with God and obedient to God.

What a delight and wonder for a man to have such a walking companion as God! One who is so unequal to us, so infinitely superior to us: “Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly, but the proud He knows from afar.” Truly, He condescends to “men to low estate.” When friends walk, they talk. There are, perhaps, few activities which encourage people to open their hearts to one another so much as dining together or walking together. When a person walks with God, he talks to God (in prayer), and God talks to him (in his reading of the Word of God, the Bible). Through all the activities and business of life, there is to be a continual communion between the soul and the Father in heaven. Happy is the man or woman, the boy or girl, who enjoys this intimacy with the Almighty!

Enoch and Noah enjoyed intimacy with God because they were obedient to God. To be sure, they were sinners by nature as we all are. “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way.” But they had come to anticipate the birth of the Redeemer God had promised to send. They walked by faith and not by sight. They believed in both the threats and the promises of God. Thus we read, “By faith Enoch…and by faith Noah...” God commands each of us to believe in Jesus Christ whom He has sent. Without faith in Him, we walk all by ourselves. Do you walk with God? If not, will you?
