". . . the secrets of men . . ."

  Isaiah 45:22

Solomon tells us that “God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” It is concerning this fact of a coming day when all persons will be judged that the apostle Paul wrote that “God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ.” Jesus Himself said, “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” We are told that when the Lord comes again from heaven, He “will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts.” Many of the secrets of men are shameful, hence the desire to keep them secret. The delights of sin are offset by shamefulness which cause men to keep them under wraps. Solomon says of the sexually immoral that “stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But we also read that “it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.” Though many desires, motives, methods, and even actions are hidden from other people, God knows them all. Hence He is able to judge them all and bring them all to light. “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” In Psalm 90 Moses prayed, saying, “You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.” God Himself says, “Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?” The good news is that Jesus died not only for visible sins, but for secret sins as well. The blood of Jesus Christ God's Son cleanses those who trust Him from all sin. Those who have repented of their sins “have renounced the hidden things of shame.” With David they pray, “Cleanse me from secret faults.” When God's Word is taught in church, a listener may be convicted of all he hears, “And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.” Let us all fall down on our faces and worship.
