". . . so that they are without excuse." Romans 1:20

  Romans 1:20

According to the Bible, there are, strictly speaking, no atheists. The Bible does indeed refer to people who say, "There is no God." And it refers to those who live as if there is no God. But whether one professes a philosophical atheism, or lives a practical atheism, strictly speaking, there are no atheists. Of course, if one does not believe the Bible (and who, not believing God, would believe the Bible to be the Word of God?), such a claim that there are no atheists is ludicrous and perhaps offensive. But a Christian is confronted with the option of believing what an atheist says about himself, or in believing what God has to say about him. The Bible says that all mankind knows there is a God and that He is the Creator of all things. We not only know of His existence and reality, but through the stars over our heads, the grass under our feet, the delicious fruits of the earth on our tables, and our own marvelous physical and mental capacities, we also know the nature of this God whose existence we are prone to deny. The Bible says that all men know of God's infinite wisdom, power, goodness, sovereignty, and eternity. We know this to be so in our hearts and consciences, but the Bible says we are at war with this knowledge because it demands of us an allegiance to this God which we grudge to give. By nature we live in a state of denial, and suppress that which we know to be true. For if there is no God, then there is no law of God. And if there is no law of God, then there is no such thing as sin. And if there is no such thing as sin, there is no punishment of sin, no hell, no wrath of God. And if there is no hell, there is no need to change how we live, no need to repent from the sins we love and enjoy. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life cry out for satisfaction. Righteousness is hateful to the one who loves darkness rather than light. Because of God's grace, many "atheists" have renounced their suppression of the truth, and now love, revere, and obey the God of the Scriptures. They worship Jesus Christ who is the Creator, Sustainer, and Heir of all things. All of creation declares the glory of God.
