"Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?" Isaiah 33:14

  Isaiah 33:14

Does your conscience smite you for your sins? Your conscience is your best friend; do not stifle it, ignore it, or suffocate its voice. Do not surround yourself with so much loud music and chattering people that your conscience cannot speak to you. Do not isolate this best of friends through the effects of alcohol or drugs. It is telling you that you have disobeyed God. It is telling you that you have offended Him by disregarding His authority over you. It is warning you that God rightly holds you accountable for your sins and that unless you obtain His forgiveness, you will rightly suffer what you deserve for your disobedience. We will have a relationship with God forever, either as a vessel of mercy or a vessel of wrath, as a friend or as a foe. We will either enjoy His grace and loving-kindness in His kingdom forever, or suffer His righteous indignation in unquenchable fire forever. Our consciences know this about God - that He is righteous and that He is eternal. Too, the Bible tells us that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life and to suffer the curse which we guilty sinners deserve. We the guilty are able to be saved from what we deserve through the sinless Substitute who gave Himself as a sacrifice for all who would ever trust in Him for their everlasting salvation. At the cross, their sins were imputed to Him, and when they believe, His righteousness is imputed to them. Hence we read, "how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works (sins deserving death and hell) to serve the living God?" A purged or cleansed conscience is what each of us need but the only remedy for a guilty conscience is the blood of the Lord Jesus. His sinless life is worthy of the kingdom of God and His spotless sacrifice has quenched the wrath of God towards every sinner who trusts in Christ. God raised Christ from the dead to show that His sacrifice was acceptable, "a sweet-smelling aroma."

"Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?" He who does not heed the voice of conscience.
