"I have come down from heaven."

John 7:42

The birth of Jesus Christ was unlike any other birth in the history of humanity. One aspect of this uniqueness pertains to the fact of His previous eternal pre-existence as the Son of God. The Son of God became flesh and dwelt among men and they beheld His glory, the glory of His wisdom, power, goodness, and righteousness. He who always was, remained the Son of God, but became what He had not been, the Son of Man. He who was truly divine in the eternal past became also truly human in the fullness of time, being conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit in Galilee and born of her in Bethlehem in Judea. He was Emmanuel, which means "God with us." The Son of God came to earth from heaven in order to save us from our sins. "This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. . ." We also come into the world, but not from some other place, for we begin our personhood in our mother's womb. But the person of the Son of God came from heaven and took upon Himself the form of a servant being made in the likeness of men, by taking upon Himself human nature but without sinful depravity. This joining of His divine nature with His human nature was a permanent joining, never to cease. He will always be the Son of God and the Son of Man. He will always be God incarnate. He often referred to His coming from heaven and many found this hard to accept. They said, "How is it, then, that He says, 'I have come down from heaven.'?" Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? What if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?" Of course, that is what He did forty days after His resurrection - He ascended back to heaven "where He was before". He will come yet again, not to be born, but to judge all mankind with righteous judgment. He will separate the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the chaff, the good fish from the bad, those who receive Him from those who do not. Have you received Him as your Savior and Lord? God has given His Son; have you received Him by faith?
