"For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry."

  Hebrews 10:37

When man first sinned against God, God promised to send a man, "the seed of the woman', to save man from sin and its penalty. This One who was to come was identified increasingly in the Old Testament Scriptures. He was to be the offspring of Abraham, and from the tribe of Judah, and especially was to be the Son of David. For many generations people anticipated His arrival due to their faith in God's promise. Finally, after four thousand years the One who was to come, came. God had kept His word, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." But when He came unto His own, His own received Him not. He was crucified, yet God raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heaven where He is building His Church today through proclamation of the gospel throughout all the nations of the earth. Before He ascended to heaven He promised to return, judge the world, and usher in His everlasting kingdom of righteousness. Once again, He is "the One who is coming." "To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation." (Hebrews 9:28) God promises to give believers rest from their persecutors "when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8) Believers have waited only half as long for His second coming as those waited for His first coming in Bethlehem. While anxious believers may be impatient and imagine a delay or tarrying, the reality is that the appointed time, the fulness of time, has not yet come. "For yet a little while" (using God's time) "and He who is coming will come and will not tarry." When He does come, He will make an everlasting separation of the sheep from the goats, of the wheat from the chaff, of the good fish from the bad fish. Jesus said, "Be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him."
