"... the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth." John 5:28

  John 5:28

People tend to be  much more aware of their approaching death than of their certain resurrection from the dead. Death tends to be an unwelcome topic of personal meditation, hence easy to push to the back of one's mind in the pursuit of present happiness in the busy-ness of life. Death involves the separation of the spirit from the body, and the consequent burial of the body. Everyone is aware that the body is no longer subject to sickness, pain, or suffering. Many assume that the spirits of the dead either all go to be with God in bliss or that they cease to exist (i.e., are annihilated). The fact that the spirits of the dead are all to be reunited with the dust of death and thus to live again in perpetuity is seldom considered. This is because, to use the words of Jesus, they "do err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God." Jesus taught (as well as the Old Testament prophets and New Testament apostles) that "the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice (i.e., of the Son of God) and come forth -- those who have done good unto the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation." All who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and repent of their sins ("those who have done good") go to be with Christ when they die, and await "the resurrection of life." Those who do not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and who persist in the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life ("those who have done evil") go to torment when they die, and await "the resurrection of condemnation." Our bodies and souls will either experience the joy of "no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain" or our bodies and souls will experience the Lord's righteous wrath, where, to use the words of Jesus, "the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched." God has set the hour in which Christ will return, all will be resurrected, and all will be judged. This is not a popular message, but it is the truth. Flee from the wrath to come by fleeing by faith to the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. We can only be accepted in the sacrifice of the sinless Son of God, whom He loves.
