"Who knows the things of man except the spirit of the man which is in him?"

  I Corinthians 2:11

While there is much that people can learn about each of us by simple observation, there is nonetheless much in each of our hearts and minds which cannot be known by others unless we reveal it. We may have desires, opinions, fears, aspirations, memories, expectations, illusions, and plans which no one but God knows. "Who knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?" But self-revelation opens the door to allow others to better know us. And what is true of us, is also true of God. For out text continues: "Even so no one know the things of God except the Spirit of God." God also has desires, expectations, and plans. Much about God we can know by simple observation of His works of creation and providence. "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse." But there is much about God that cannot be known by observation. God also has engaged in self-revelation in giving us the Holy Scriptures. He has revealed some of His desires, expectations, and plans. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit." To Satan God said, "I will put enmity between you and and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel." To Abraham He said, "I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Concerning His elect, He said, "I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people... For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." "I will call them My people who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not beloved." He sent His Son into the world to change the hearts of many. God wants us to know these things about Himself, and act upon them.
