"... the forgiveness of sins."
Acts 13:38

Friend, each of us will either be forgiven or punished by God for our sins. There is no alternative. We will receive a full and free pardon for all of our sins, or we will bear the everlasting punishment which all of our sins deserve. We will not be partly forgiven and partly condemned. We will be wholly forgiven or wholly condemned. How necessary is it then that we should understand how we may obtain God's forgiveness.

God does not forgive sin by overlooking it or turning a blind eye to it. "There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." (Hebrews 4:13). The Bible teaches that God does not forgive sin without exacting punishment for it. All forgiven sins are punished sins. But the punishment is not borne by the sinner but by the Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the Man referred to in our text above: "Let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins."

Dear reader, as we approach the time of the year when we especially remember the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us remember that He died on the cross to make satisfaction to the righteous wrath of God for sinners. God's matchless love and grace sent His sinless Son to the cross that the guilty might have "the forgiveness of sins." Christ came to "save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21). God's promise is: "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Dear neighbor, will you be forgiven, or punished? Believe in God's Son.
