“For we brought nothing into this world, …”
I Timothy 6:7

Dear reader, all of us leave this world as poor as when we entered it. “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” Whatever we have received after our entrance will have to be surrendered before our departure. Material goods are necessary and certainly have an important place in human affairs. But it is a fact that we are prone to spend our lives accumulating what we shall have to leave to others while we are equally prone to neglect giving serious attention to what we shall need for our eternal welfare when we come to die. The body has necessities, and these we are permitted to supply. The soul also has necessities, and these we are not permitted to overlook. The man who succeeds by industry, frugality, and prudence (not to mention covetousness or dishonesty) in accumulating much money or the things which money can buy, but who has made no preparation for his judgment by God is foolish. Jesus said of such a man: “But God said unto him, ’You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20,21. Friend, if a person leaves this world as ignorant of God, as alienated from God, as disobedient to God, as unconcerned for his own soul as when he entered it, it doesn’t matter what he owned. He is lost. Forever lost. “Seek the LORD while He may be found.”
