“The heavens declare the glory of God …”
Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare or proclaim the glory of God in that they make known to mankind the excellency of His infinite wisdom, power, and goodness. When we consider the size of the heavenly bodies, their precise rotations and revolutions, their various constitutions, and their placement from one another in distances which are so immense that our minds cannot begin to grasp, we only begin to get a sense of His glorious majesty. Friend, since the heavens declare the glory of God, we are obliged to admire that glory. We are to acknowledge His greatness and stand in awe of Him accordingly. He is worthy of our worship, praise, love, and obedience. We should keep in mind more than we do that the God against whom we sin is this glorious God who created, established, and sustains the heavens. He who puts on this cosmic display of His glory does not take it lightly when we ignore Him, curse Him, and live in active opposition to Him and His holy commandments. The One who has power to create and control the heavens has the power to subdue us and punish us for our greed, lust, deceit, hatred, and other sins. When your eyes survey the heavens, let them remind you of the reality of God, the glory of God, and the duty which you and I have to humble ourselves before Him in reverence and obedience. Let us remember our many sins against this glorious God and the need which we have to be reconciled to Him through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. His mercy and compassion to the repentant are as great as His power and wisdom which are displayed in the heavens, for the blood of Christ also declares the glory of our great God.
