“And I saw a great white throne …”
Revelation 20:11

At the end of the Bible we are given a vivid description of what will take place at the end of this age. Every person who has ever lived is to be judged by One who sits on a great white throne. It is Jesus Christ who sits upon this throne and who will judge the world. A throne, like a crown or a scepter, is a symbol of authority. It is a place from which laws go forth to be obeyed, and it is a place to which those under the laws are brought for judgment. This throne cancels any idea of every man doing what is right in his own eyes. God has given us moral standards of right and wrong; to ignore and disregard them is to be in defiance of the Lawgiver. The apostle Paul spoke of this day of judgment to the philosophers of Athens, Greece, saying, “God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Jesus Christ also spoke of this day of judgment, saying, “The Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” Dear reader, the One who sits on this throne died upon the cross and rose from the dead in order to save sinners like us from the punishment we deserve. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
