“… the work of Your fingers ...”
Psalm 8:3

God’s works of creation are gloriously majestic. They display but a breath-taking portion of the infinity of His power. As the Psalmist David contemplated the night sky, he referred to the moon and the stars as “the work of Your fingers.” Since men exert themselves and perform their work in the use of their arm, hand or fingers, the same language is used to convey to us a sense of God’s wonderful might. The manifestations of God’s wrath are also displays of His infinite power. He exercises His power against His enemies in ways designed to impress as well as afflict. The ten plagues He poured upon Egypt is such a case. In the plague of lice which afflicted man and beast, the magicians of Pharaoh said, “This is the finger of God,” by which they meant that this dreadful plague was a mighty act of God. The miracles of the Lord Jesus Christ are also displays of Divine omnipotence. “The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up...” He turned water into wine and commanded the stormy wind and waves into immediate calm. How? “But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.” God created the world, subdues His enemies, performed blessed signs and wonders with His finger. This is a finger to be worshipped. “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
