“having eyes full of adultery ….”
II Peter 2:14

Dear reader, God instituted marriage at creation and sanctified the union of a man and his wife to express their love and/or to procreate children. Hence we read in the Bible: “Marriage is honorable among all and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” Where there is sincere confession of sin and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ there is forgiveness of our sins; but there is only everlasting condemnation for those who continue in their impenitence and unbelief. Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” If there is an adultery that takes place in the bed, there is also an adultery that takes place in the heart. The latter often leads to the former. Both forms of adultery find encouragement through the eyes. Hence the Bible speaks of those “having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin.” Lustful hearts employ lustful eyes to encourage lustful behavior. Many eyes “cannot cease from sin”; they are slaves to lust, willing slaves to continuous looks at people around them or at pornographic displays through the media. Friend, what one person does not have a right to show, another person does not have a right to view. Those who encourage lust either by immodest dress or by sinful gaze may please each other, but they greatly displease and anger the God of heaven who has said that those who practice such things, “shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” The Lord Jesus has saved the souls of many who have been guilty of such sins as these, but to each He has said, “Go, and sin no more.”
