“What man can live and not see death?”

Death is inescapable. It has each of us in its clutches as soon as we are conceived in our mother’s womb. It is only a matter of time until we succumb to its claim upon us. The Bible describes its power over us as the reign of a king. It does not matter what is one’s financial income. Death reigns among the rich as well as the poor. Sometimes money may delay its final conquest, but it is not a long delay. Death is stronger than money. It does not matter what is one’s ethnic background. No nationality is immune from death, no people-group is exempt. Regardless of one’s color or language, the grave is the common receptacle of every person in the world. It does not matter what is one’s educational background. Death reigns among Ph. D.’s as well as among the illiterate. Professional students are as mortal as pre-school toddlers. Death is no respecter of academia. It does not matter what is one’s religion. Death reigns among Buddhists, Christians, Confucians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Shintoists, as well as among atheists. Death will claim all within its power regardless of what the creed. The gospel of Jesus Christ does not prevent death, but guarantees a blessed resurrection to those who are sincere disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is coming a day when the dead who sleep in the dust of the earth will be awakened, “some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Friend, while all die, all are not prepared to die. Jesus said, “If you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” If Christ is your Shepherd, you need fear no evil when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
