“… in the house of the LORD forever.”

Psalm 23:6

Friend, you and I have come to the end of another year, but we have not come to our end, for we shall have no end. We have an everlasting duration. We had a beginning, but we have no ending. He who made us made us to be permanent and enduring. Yes, the Bible does teach that “it is appointed unto man once to die,” but it also teaches that “an hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth -- those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.” Thus Jesus spoke of “everlasting life” and of “everlasting punishment.” The beloved 23rd Psalm closes with these words: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” When King David of Israel penned those words, he gave expression by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the truth that there would be no end of his existence when his earthly days expired. He would then dwell in the house of the LORD forever. “All the days of my life,” David said, are not all my days. Nor do all of the days of your life or of my life constitute all of the days of our existence. It is a sad reality that our everlasting duration is not a matter of prime importance to us as it should be. We are prone to live for the present and blot out of our minds all thought of the infinite, unending future. “She did not consider her destiny; therefore her collapse was awesome.” “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Dear friend, today is the day of salvation. Use it wisely.
