“And such were some of you... ”

I Corinthians 6:11

One of the chief attractions of the Bible is its record of transformed lives. Men and women whose lives were characterized not only by sin, but by the grosser forms of sin, were radically changed by the grace of God. Such was the case in Corinth, Greece, where wickedness and profligacy of every kind was practiced brazenly. The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth as follows: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” The apostle reminds the congregation that while all of them were washed, sanctified, and justified sinners, some of them had been characterized by sinful lifestyles that went beyond the ordinary. How encouraging to know that “where sin abounded, grace abounded more”, and that “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” When the Lord Jesus Christ died for sinners, He bore the righteous wrath of God for every type of sin practiced by man. It does not matter how low one has gone in sin, nor how long one has been in that condition; he or she is able to find forgiveness and transformation through faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” Never underestimate the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.
