“But where sin abounded, grace abounded more.”
Romans 5:20

Man’s sins are great, but God’s grace is greater. Our sins are more numerous and more serious than we are aware, but so is the grace of God towards all who repent of their sins. From childhood, we do not like God’s authority over us, and we resent His righteous commandments. We often do what He forbids, and we also often fail to do what He commands. God’s authority is not only over our words and deeds, but it reaches into our thoughts, desires, motives, and attitudes. Yet, in spite of the greatness of our sins, they are not so great as the grace that is offered to us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Our sins deserve God’s wrath and curse, both in this life and that which is to come. But the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ is worthy of eternal life and is freely put to the account of every one who believes in Him. Great sin will not keep us out of the kingdom of God if
we are sincerely repentant. But lesser sins will condemn us to unquenchable fire if we will not repent. There will be some in hell who lived better lives than some in the kingdom of God, but they did not repent of their sins. There will be people in heaven who lived worse lives than some in hell, but they did repent of their sins. The thief on the cross who believed in Jesus acknowledged that he was receiving what he deserved for his crimes, but Jesus told him he would be in paradise that very day. There are many in hell who never committed such crimes but who will suffer everlasting punishment because they will not trust in the Savior and repent. Friend, great sin cannot keep you from everlasting life, “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
