“You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting."

Daniel 5:27

God has balances in which He weighs every person. These balances do not weigh an individual’s body weight, but rather, his works and his character. Even the most powerful and wealthy people are weighed by God. Belshazzar, the king of the Babylonian empire, was told that God had weighed him in His balances, and he was found wanting, that is, his character was altogether too light. The king would be murdered that night as God brought down Belshazzar for his wicked works which issued from his wicked heart. His death would take him to everlasting punishment because He refused to obey God. God’s eye is also upon each of us. He sees and knows our every thought, word, and deed. When we weigh ourselves in our own balances, we tinker with the settings and get a false reading. But we, too, are weighed in God’s balances and found wanting. But Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was very different from us. Of Him God said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” He, too, was weighed in God’s balances, but He was not found wanting. He perfectly fulfilled the law of God. “I delight to do Your will, O My God, and Your law is within My heart.” He is “holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners.” God “made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” The perfect righteousness of Christ and His sacrificial death for sinners on the cross is put to the account of all who trust in the Lord for their salvation. His death is their death; His righteousness is their righteousness. Do you see your need of Jesus for eternal life? He is the way, the truth, and the life. Call on Him.
