“For yet a little while ...”

God, the Maker of heaven and earth, rules over the universe. He works all things according to His own will. The events which take place, the instruments of those events, +and the timing of those events are in accordance with His good pleasure. The Scriptures of both Old and New Testaments abound with illustrations of God’s control over history, and His bringing events to pass at specific times. God is not making His plans on a day by day basis, but rather He foreordained before the foundation of the world whatsoever comes to pass. He is able to declare what shall be, because He has decreed what shall be, and when it shall be. Two primary examples concern the comings of Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament we are told that the Messiah would come in the days of the kings who would rule after Greece, (which was during the Roman empire). Thus Caesar Augustus made a decree that all the world should be taxed. Also in the New Testament we are told “when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son” to be born to redeem sinners. Regarding the second coming of Christ we read, “For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.” The day of Christ is not known by any man, but God knows for “He has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in ighteousness by a Man,” Jesus Christ whom He raised from the dead. We are a day closer to this pivotal day than we were a day ago. His coming will be wonderful to some, terrible to others. But to all, it is soon: “For yet a little while”. In comparison to eternity, whatever time we must wait is little indeed. Jesus said, Therefore you also be ready.”
