"While the earth remains . . ."

The earth is a marvel. Its placement, motions, and tilt are wonderful. If its distance from the sun were different, the temperature would not be conducive to life. If its distance from the moon were different, the effect on the tides would likewise be devastating. The earth's rotation produces our cycle of day and night, just as its revolution around the sun produces our year. In conjunction with that revolution is the tilt of the earth which give us our seasons which, in turn, are designed for huge annual harvests for our food supply. If that tilt were less, the climate would not be conducive to food production. Earth's nearest planetary neighbor, Venus, is almost exactly the same size as the earth—only 400 miles less in diameter. If the earth were an orange, Venus would be the orange minus the peel. The temperature on Venus is over 850 degrees, both on its equator and on its poles. A day on Venus is longer than its year-- as it takes 243 days for Venus to rotate once, but 225 days for it to revolve around the sun. Venus has months of darkness on one side followed by months of light. There are no seasons on Venus as it is almost totally lacking in vertical tilt. So what a marvel the earth is! But the earth will not remain as it is. After God judged the sinful earth-population in the days of Noah by a universal deluge, He said, “While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” These blessings of placement, rotation, revolution, and tilt will continue “while the earth remains.” But this hints at another and final judgment upon the earth-population-- this time by fire not water. After referring to the Noahic judgment, Peter declared: “But the heavens and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word, reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. . . But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” God intends to “create a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” He will reign forever.
